10 students hospitalised after gas explosion in Ebonyi
About ten female students have been hospitalised following a gas explosion that occurred at Good Shepherd Catholic Catering School, Abakaliki, in Ebonyi State.
It was gathered that the incident occurred Saturday at the kitchen section of the school.
A father of one of the victims, Comrade Emmanuel Nwizi, stated that the explosion was allegedly caused by an android phone which one of the victims was holding in the kitchen.
According to Comrade Nwizi, a staff member of Nigeria Television Authority, NTA, Abakaliki, five of the victims were in a critical situation in a hospital.

Their parents are collaborating with the leadership of the Catholic school to ensure that appropriate medical attention is administered to them, he said.
He said his daughter, Miss Chisom Nwizi, suffered severe burns, adding that she gained admission into the school just last month.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Ebonyi State, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident. He however did not give more details on the incident.
The school authorities are yet to make an official statement about the explosion as at the time of filing the report.
