The pair of Akpabio and Barau had been endorsed by the president-elect Bola Tinubu to lead the Senate.
Akpabio had earlier said the party was awaiting the APC National Working Committee (NWC) for the zoning arrangements for the 10th NASS leadership.
Akpabio spoke in Abuja to members of the National Assembly Press Corps on the sidelines of the induction programme organised by the National Institute for Legislative Studies (NILDS) for senators-elect and House of Representatives members-elect.
