12 passengers burnt to death in Lagos-Ibadan expressway auto crash

A fatal lone auto crash in Ogun State on Tuesday claimed twelve lives.

The victims of the mishap, which happened along Malo Ogere, Lagos-Ibadan expressway, were burnt to death.

The road accident, which happened at about 3:14 pm, involved a white Mazda bus with registration number DDA733XA.

Spokesman of the state’s Federal Road Safety Corps Florence Okpe confirmed the incident.

In a statement made available to newsmen, she stated the rescue operation was carried out by a team from FRSC Ogere Unit Command.

Okpe noted that the crash involved 16 persons which comprised 12 male adults, three female adults, and one female child.

She said: “The total number of people was 16, which comprised of 12 male adults, three female adult and one female child. Four male passengers were injured in the crash and rescued, while the other 12 persons were burnt to death. The injured victims were taken to Patmag Hospital, Ogere.

Okpe ascribed the cause to wrongful overtaking by the bus driver, which led to loss of control and the bus hitting the road divider.

She added that the vehicle fell and was immediately engulfed in flames
