12 suspects arrested over Kaduna mosque attack

Operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command have arrested no fewer than 12 suspects in connection to an attack on worshippers in a mosque in the state.

Police operatives on 21st March 2025 received a distress call from a concerned citizen, reporting that a large group of armed hoodlums had mobilised from Malalin Gabas, Tudun Wada, Rafin Guza, and Unguwar Baduko areas to attack worshippers performing Tahajjud prayer at Layin Bilya, Makwa Road, Rigasa, Kaduna.

This was disclosed by the spokesperson of the Kaduna Police Command, DSP Mansir Hassan.

After receiving the complaint, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) dispatched a team of police, along with the Commander of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), to the scene in an attempt to catch the perpetrators.

However, before they arrived, the perpetrators had stabbed Usman Mohammad, a 23-year-old victim, with a sharp blade. Despite being brought to the hospital for immediate medical assistance, he died from his injuries hours later and was declared dead by the attending physician.

In response, the operatives quickly captured twelve suspects who admitted to taking part in the attack and recovered many firearms from them. A full-scale inquiry has been begun to determine the entire extent of the tragedy and ensure justice is served.

The Kaduna State Police Command has dramatically bolstered security deployments in crucial places, particularly around mosques where such prayers take place. To help with effective crime prevention, the public is advised to remain attentive and report any suspicious actions to the police as soon as possible.

Furthermore, the Command issued a harsh warning to all miscreants to stop indulging in these illicit actions, stating that if found, they will face the full force of the law.
