Boat crash kills two in Lagos, 15 rescued
Two persons have been confirmed dead in a boat accident recorded in the Ikoyi area of Lagos and 15 other passengers rescued.
The incident happened at Powerline, the Ikoyi Link Bridge, on Wednesday evening.
It was learnt that a 17-passenger boat heading for Ikorodu unexpectedly collapsed.
The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) claims that an increase in tide was the cause of the collision.

It said that the rider rammed into a high-tension pole that was flooded by water which led to the capsize of the boat.
The agency confirmed that two persons, a male and a female died from the accident, adding that 15 others were rescued unhurt.
LASWA said the deceased female was retrieved from the water while a search was on for the male.
It said: “The body of an adult female was retrieved from the water and subsequently transported from the incident scene to LASWA head office at Falomo before being was confirmed dead by the LRU paramedics.
“The adult female remains have been bagged and await the arrival of the SEHMU officials.
The search for the body of the adult male is ongoing,” it said.
