15-Year-Old APC Aspirant Quits Kaduna Reps Race Over Age Scandal
A teenage aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sadisu Buba Mahmud, has withdrawn from the race to represent Sabon Gari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives following controversy over his real age.
The withdrawal came after an investigative report by Peoples Gazette alleged that the young politician falsified his age to qualify for the 2027 National Assembly election.
The development has sparked nationwide reactions, with many Nigerians debating issues surrounding age verification, youth participation in politics, and constitutional requirements for elective offices.
The controversy began after Mahmud, who had gained popularity in Kaduna political circles, reportedly claimed during public appearances and media interviews that he was 30 years old.
However, an investigation by Peoples Gazette allegedly uncovered official records showing otherwise.
Date of birth of Sadisu Buba Mahmud
According to the report, documents including his birth certificate, National Identification Number (NIN) details, and passport information indicated that Mahmud was born on August 27, 2010, making him 15 years old.
The revelation immediately raised questions about his eligibility to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives under Nigerian law.

Under the Nigerian Constitution, candidates seeking election into the House of Representatives must be at least 25 years old.
Following the report, the APC aspirant officially announced his withdrawal from the contest.
In a letter reportedly submitted to party leaders in Kaduna State, Mahmud said the decision was reached after consultations with family members, political allies, and stakeholders within the party.
He described the move as necessary for party unity and stability ahead of future political activities.
The teenager, who had attracted attention due to his youthful appearance and disability status, had earlier been celebrated by supporters as a symbol of youth inclusion in Nigerian politics.
His emergence had also generated conversations on the increasing involvement of young Nigerians in governance and leadership.
The controversy has continued to dominate discussions across social media platforms, with Nigerians expressing mixed opinions over the incident.
While some criticised the alleged falsification of age, others argued that the case highlights the need for stronger verification processes within political parties and electoral institutions.
Others also noted that the situation reflects the growing interest of Nigerian youths in active politics, especially after the constitutional amendment that reduced age requirements for certain elective positions through the “Not Too Young To Run” campaign.
Despite the controversy, political observers believe the incident may further intensify conversations around transparency, credibility, and youth representation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
The APC leadership in Kaduna State is yet to issue a detailed official statement on the matter as of the time of filing this report.
