At least 18 passengers were feared dead on Saturday, after two buses collided along the Iseyin-Moniya road in Oyo state.
The 65km Moniya-Ijaiye-Iseyin road, which was recently rehabilitated, was commissioned by the Oyo government in June 2021.
The accident occurred close to Kraal market along the route.
TheCable understands that the two buses had a head-on collision at a sharp bend along the road.
Uche Chukwura, sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Oyo state, said she hadn’t yet been notified of the incident.
She said the delay in notification may be as a result of the network downtime suffered by MTN on Saturday.
Chukwura, however, promised to provide details when it is available.
The incident comes weeks after 10 people were reportedly killed, following an accident that occurred at a market in Molete area of Ibadan, the Oyo capital.
On July 4, an articulated vehicle conveying gas crashed into the market after the driver of the vehicle, which was coming from Idi-Arere area of Ibadan, lost control of the tanker.
The driver was said to have attempted to veer off the road, and rammed into some shops at the market.
