A high court in Cross River State has granted an interim order restraining Uche Secondus from resuming office as the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Justice Edem Kooffreh gave the order on Friday as he ruled on a motion ex parte filed by one Enang Wani.

The court barred Secondus from presiding over any meeting of the party until the motion is heard.

Kooffreh ruled, “An order of interim injunction restraining the first defendant (Secondus) from presiding over the national executive committee meeting of the 2nd Defendant scheduled to hold on Saturday, the 28th of August, 2012 or any subsequent meeting of the national executive committee of the second defendant and from presiding over any meeting of any organ of the second defendant or attending any of such meetings of functions in the capacity of national chairman of the party or in any other manner or form attempting to forcefully gain entrance into any such meetings or into the premises of the second defendant as national chairman of the party pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”

The court also restrained the PDP from recognising or granting Secondus the powers due to the office of the national chairman.

“An order of interim injunction restraining the second defendant, its members, officers and agents from recognising the first defendant as its national chairman or from according him any of the powers, rights or privileges due to the holder of the office of the National chairman of the 2 Defendant pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice,” the judge said.

Kooffreh also ruled that the notice of the ruling be served to the parties by substituted means by “pasting at the entrance of the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Wadata Plaza, Plot 1970, Michael Okpara Street, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, in the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria and by publication in two (2) National Newspapers in Nigeria”.

On Monday, a high court in Rivers State granted an interim order restraining Secondus from parading himself as the national chairman of the party.

The party subsequently named Yemi Akinwonmi, deputy national chairman (south) of the PDP, as the acting chairman of the party on Thursday.

But hours later, a Kebbi State high court ordered the return of Secondus as national chairman of the party.

Senator Samuel Anyanwu

The Senator who represented Imo East at the 8th Senate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu on Sunday charged Nigerians to take their destinies in their hands, having seen that the All Progressives Congress, APC does not have any regard for their security and welfare.

The chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, said plans were on top gear to tackle insecurity in Nigeria when the PDP takes over in 2023.

Anyanwu maintained that since the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is doing nothing to reassure Nigerians of adequate security, such callous mistake has been identified by the PDP for urgent correction with a view to restoring public sanity and confidence.

The South East Consensus candidate for the position of National Secretary of PDP, stated this in Owerri, Imo State capital while reacting to the killing of two traditional rulers in Njaba local government area of Imo State.

He described the ongoing killings of innocent people in the South East, including that of the traditional rulers as not only senseless, barbaric, but sacrilegious and needless.

His word, “no right thinking human being of Igbo extraction no matter the level of insanity, disagreement or hatred can raise a gun or any object against a traditional ruler who are highly revered as custodians of culture, norms and tradition”

“When things that are unusual begin to happen in our climes, it therefore means that things have fallen apart and the center cannot hold. ”

He said,” The summary of the whole thing is that APC has failed Nigerians and that Nigerians need to flush it out is not negotiable. We must demonstrate and express our grievances against them with our vote in 2023.”

Last Wednesday, Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna, said he will appoint sole administrators for the LGAs if the election does not take place.

“I would like to observe that if elections do not take place as scheduled on this date, we will have no option than to appoint administrators to manage these local governments for the next three years,” he had said.

“So it is in the interest of everybody to allow elections to take place, otherwise I will appoint people to manage those local governments.”

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu

The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hamisu Chidari, said the APC in Kano State would support the 2023 presidential ambition of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in 2023.

He spoke at the inauguration of the Tinubu Support Group and the state steering committees of the TSG in Abuja on Saturday.

Chidari said Kano State, which has the highest number of voters and delegates in the country, would repay Tinubu’s act of helping the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to become President in 2015.

“My purpose is to kick-start the journey that will take us to the Villa by God’s grace with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the number one citizen of Nigeria,” he said.

The lawmaker added, “In Kano, being the state with the highest number of delegates, we have already decided and already concluded; we are set to give him at least 98 per cent of delegates in the primaries. Not only that, we are set as usual to give him the highest number of votes so that come May 29, 2023, we will be at the Eagle Square to swear him in as the President.

“All of us in the North-West are aware of the role he played in taking our son, President Muhammadu Buhari, to the Villa. So, we are going to reward him; we are going to pay him back. So, I have assured him of victory. Almost all the delegates from the North-West states are going to vote for him in the next primary elections.”

The purported ambition of the former governor of Lagos State was said to have deepened the crisis of the APC in Kano State, Sunday PUNCH has learnt.

Tinubu fought corruption in Lagos with technology – Faleke

Meanwhile, a member of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the Committee on Finance, Mr James Faleke, said Tinubu fought corruption with technology while serving as governor Lagos State.

Faleke , who spoke during the inauguration of the support group, said, “The least sacrifice we can make is to let the whole country see the leadership we have seen, feel the compassion we have felt, and move the maker of modern Lagos to be the reformer of a greater Nigeria.

“My claim that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is the maker of modern Lagos State is a truthful assertion. The landscape can tell the stories of its transformation from 1999 to 2007.”

In a related development, the coordinators of the Tinubu Support Organisation in the South-West have been chosen by delegates across the five states of the region.

The Director-General of the organisation, Alhaji Suleiman Aminu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Abdulghaniyy Kareem, congratulated the state arrowheads and charged the new coordinators to adhere to the goals of the organisation.

The new coordinators are Lanre Sodipo (Ogun State), Otunba Olusegun  Fanibe (Osun State), Ezekiel Omotosho (Ekiti State),  Akin Akingbesote (Ondo State) and Ambali Abiodun (Oyo State).

The Lagos TSO coordinator, Mr Akinduro Ibesanmi, noted that the group’s mission was to accomplish the mandate of Asiwaju Tinubu in the 2023 elections.

An elder statesman from Ekiti State, Pa Olomola Jegede, encouraged coordinators to be steadfast pending Tinubu’s declaration to contest presidency in 2023.

The coordinators in their response however assured the organisation of their readiness to work and mobilise for the ex-governor of Lagos State.
