Election losers behind insecurity in Nigeria – Atiku’s ex-aide

Daniel Bwala, a former spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organization during the 2023 presidential election, has claimed that some politicians are responsible for Nigeria’s insecurity. He made this statement during an interview on Channels TV’s “Politics Today.”

Bwala’s comments came in response to former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s assertion that politicians were weaponizing insecurity in the country. Bwala agreed with Okonjo-Iweala’s perspective, arguing that many behind the insecurity are politicians who lost in the elections.

He said, “Look at the last so-called protest conducted by the youngsters, you will see undemocratic elements trying to seize it. And we have people in some parts of the country. Ordinarily, you can’t recognize flags of foreign countries but we are producing flags of Russia and singing, asking Russia to come and take over the country in order for the military to take over the government.”

Bwala further emphasized that the insecurity is largely orchestrated by politicians who are not in power and are attempting to create chaos to destabilize the current government. He pointed out that agitation for a new constitution and other forms of unrest are often spearheaded by those who did not win the elections, stating, “If they are not in the mainstream, they will continue to make the country ungovernable.”

However, Bwala clarified that his statement does not disparage patriots genuinely working towards the nation’s progress. He reiterated his agreement with Okonjo-Iweala’s viewpoint that politicians are often behind the insecurity, particularly when they are not in power and wish to challenge the sitting government.
