2025 LCCI Auto Symposium to spotlight delays in NAIDP law, local content challenges

2025 LCCI Auto Symposium to spotlight delays in NAIDP law, local content challenges

Preparations are in full swing for the 2025 edition of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) Auto & Allied Sub-Sectoral Group Symposium, scheduled for Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

This year’s symposium will explore the critical theme: “Impact of the Non-Passage of the NAIDP Policy into Law on the Automobile Industry,” with a sub-theme focusing on “Local Component: Prospects, Opportunities, and Drawbacks.”

The event will bring together top government officials, regulatory agencies, industry leaders, and stakeholders from across the automotive value chain to deliberate on the policy and structural issues affecting Nigeria’s automotive sector — particularly the stalled legislation of the Nigeria Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP).

Among the dignitaries and officials invited to speak at the symposium are Mr. Joseph Osanipin, Director-General, National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC); Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, Comptroller-General, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS); Chukwunonso Okeke, Director-General, Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON), and Chief Anselm Ilekuba, Chairman, Association of Local Content Manufacturers of Nigeria (ALCMAN).

Speaking about the forthcoming event in Lagos, Dr. Femi Eguakhide, Deputy Managing Director of R.T. Briscoe Plc and Chairman of the LCCI Auto & Allied Sub-Sectoral Group, emphasized the strategic importance of this year’s discussion.

“We are bringing the right people to the table — from regulators to manufacturers and importers. The non-passage of the NAIDP policy continues to slow investment and growth. This symposium will be a platform for frank discussions and actionable insights,” Dr. Eguakhide stated.

He reaffirmed LCCI’s commitment to fostering constructive dialogue that can help unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s automotive ecosystem, especially in promoting local content and improving the policy environment.

Also speaking, Mr. Austin Akpovili, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, noted the growing anticipation around the event, which has become a cornerstone for industry engagement.

“Every year, this symposium generates meaningful discourse. This year, the stakes are even higher as we address the policy uncertainty affecting local assemblers, parts manufacturers, and allied services,” Akpovili said.

The symposium has received strong corporate backing from leading players in the automotive industry.

Confirmed sponsors for the event are the following:

Toyota Nigeria Ltd

CFAO Nigeria

Bras Motors

CIG Motors

Mikano Motors Ltd

Honda Automobile Western Africa (HAWA)

Mandilas Motors

R.T. Briscoe Nigeria Plc

Coscharis Motors Plc

A robust panel of seasoned experts, policy analysts, and industry insiders has also been assembled to drive the conversation through focused sessions and interactive engagements.

The LCCI Auto & Allied Sub-Sectoral Group Symposium continues to serve as a vital policy and business dialogue platform, shaping the future of Nigeria’s automotive sector
