Lagos Begins Mandatory Medical Screening for Intending Pilgrims
The Lagos State Government has commenced mandatory medical screening for all intending pilgrims participating in the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The development was disclosed by the Secretary of the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mr AbdulHakeem Ajomagberin, in a statement signed by Taofeek Lawal, Deputy Director, Public Affairs.
According to Ajomagberin, the medical exercise is scheduled to run from Wednesday, January 14 to Saturday, January 24, 2026, across 10 designated screening centres in the state.
He explained that the exercise, coordinated by a medical team led by Dr Mazeedat Erinosho, is aimed at ensuring that all intending pilgrims are medically fit to perform the spiritual rites in line with Saudi health regulations.
“For accessibility and operational flexibility, Local Government Areas (LGAs) have been grouped under designated screening sites and health facilities for medical tests,” he said.

The screening centres include Agege and Ifako-Ijaiye LGAs at Agege LGA Secretariat/General Hospital, Orile-Agege; Ikeja and Oshodi-Isolo at Ikeja LGA Secretariat/BT Diagnostic Centre, LASUTH; Shomolu and Mushin at Mushin LGA Secretariat/Bukyano Medical Diagnostic; Eti-Osa, Epe and Ibeju-Lekki at General Hospital, Ibeju-Lekki; and Badagry and Ojo at General Hospital, Badagry.
Others are Amuwo-Odofin, Apapa and Ajeromi-Ifelodun at Ajeromi LGA Secretariat/Bukyano Medical Diagnostic; Surulere, Lagos Mainland and Lagos Island at Surulere LGA Secretariat; Ikorodu and Kosofe at Ikorodu LGA Secretariat/General Hospital, Ikorodu; Alimosho at Alimosho LGA Secretariat; while government officials will be screened at Adeyemi-Bero/BT Diagnostic Centre, LASUTH, Ikeja.
Ajomagberin warned that attendance at the screening is compulsory, stressing that any intending pilgrim who fails to present himself or herself would be automatically denied a Saudi entry visa.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has appointed Local Government Schedule Officers to coordinate and ensure the welfare of pilgrims both in Nigeria and Saudi Arabia during the 2026 Hajj.
He said the appointments were approved by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Hon. Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode, during a meeting at the Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, which was also attended by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Islamic Matters, Hon. Ahmad Abdullahi Jebe.
Ajomagberin urged the officers to demonstrate professionalism and commitment, assuring that the Lagos State Government remains fully committed to providing a conducive environment for pilgrims to successfully fulfil their spiritual obligations, while warning that any misconduct capable of undermining the process would not be tolerated.
