Shehu Sani Picks APC Senatorial Form
2027: Shehu Sani Picks APC Senatorial Form, Joins Kaduna Central Race
Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has officially obtained the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest the Kaduna Central Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections.
The move marks his formal entry into the race as political activities intensify within the ruling party ahead of the next general election cycle.
Sani, a well-known human rights activist turned politician, previously represented Kaduna Central in the Senate between 2015 and 2019, where he gained national attention for his outspoken legislative contributions and advocacy on governance and accountability.
His return to the senatorial contest is already generating political interest, with observers noting that his presence could significantly reshape the dynamics of the race due to his established grassroots network and strong public recognition.
Party stakeholders within the APC say the contest for the Kaduna Central ticket is expected to be highly competitive, with multiple aspirants already positioning themselves ahead of the primaries.

According to the APC timetable for the 2027 election cycle, the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms is scheduled to run from April 25 to May 2, 2026, while submission of completed forms is expected to close on May 4, 2026.
Screening of aspirants across various elective positions—including State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, governorship, and presidential tickets—is slated for May 6 to May 9, 2026.
The party also confirmed that primary elections will begin on May 15, 2026, starting with the House of Representatives, followed by Senate, State Assembly, governorship, and presidential primaries, and concluding on May 23, 2026.
Sani, who lost his re-election bid in 2019 following internal party disputes within the APC in Kaduna State, has remained active in national political commentary and public affairs discussions since leaving the Senate.
His re-entry into partisan contest under the APC platform is seen as part of broader political realignments ahead of 2027, as major parties begin early mobilisation and consolidation of support bases.
Analysts say the Kaduna Central senatorial race is likely to be one of the key battlegrounds in the North-West region, given its political weight and history of competitive elections.
As preparations continue, attention is now shifting to how party primaries will unfold and whether Sani will secure the APC ticket to make a return to the National Assembly.
