The Transmission Company of Nigeria says it has restored power to Lagos city areas affected by the pipeline explosion that rocked the Alimosho Local Government Area of the state.
It was learnt that high tension cables fell after the pylon transmitting electricity from Egbin Hydro Power Station collapsed.
Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said a pipeline explosion had led to the collapse of the 330KVA transmission power line.
In a statement on Friday night, Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s general manager of public affairs, said the company had completed 330KV line patrol and energised the second 330kV Akangba- Ikeja West Line on full load.
She said that before the collapse of the five towers, the energised second 330KV Akangba-Ikeja West Line acted as a redundant line on that axis.
The TCN Managing Director, Sule Abdulaziz, while inspecting the site of the incident, said the second 330kV line which tripped during the incident was patrolled by TCN engineers and certified okay before it was energised.
He said the line was energised at about 2.38pm on Friday and now wheels 121MW to the Akangba Transmission Substation.
According to him, the areas under Ikeja Electric Plc whose supplies were affected by the pipeline fire incident will now have a normal supply of electricity.
Abdulaziz also added that TCN had already directed two contractors to mobilise for the reconstruction of the towers and 330kV line.
