24 Akwa Ibom lawmakers dump PDP for APC
Twenty-four lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State have dumped their party for the now ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers defected from the PDP to the APC barely three days after the Akwa Ibom State governor, Umo Eno, was officially welcomed into the party.
Eno who earlier dumped the PDP for the APC said that his previous party no longer serves the state.
However, in a major political shift 24 out of 26 members of the House of Assembly announced their defection from the PDP.
Announcing on behalf of the defecting lawmakers, the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Udeme Otong said he has received the letters.

The lawmakers said they were leaving the party due to the lingering internal wrangling among members of the party executive.
Although Otong did not disclose whether he was part of the defecting lawmakers, he also did not state the position of the remaining two lawmakers.
Also, details show that one of the two legislators who are still in the PDP is Uduak Ekpo-Ufot, who represents the Etinan State Constituency.
Ekpo-Ufot is also known to be a strong ally of the former Governor Udom Emmanuel.
Speaking further, Otong announced that Sunday Johnny who represents Onna Constituency and is now part of the minority PDP, would relinquish his role as the House Leader.
Chief Whip Effiong Johnson, representing the Mbo Constituency, was immediately appointed as the Acting Leader of the House until further notice.
