28 passengers burnt to death in Lagos-Ore road crash
Twenty-eight passengers have been confirmed dead in a road crash that occurred on Saturday evening at Mile 49, along the Lagos-Ore Expressway near Ore, in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Samuel Ibitoye, disclosed this on Sunday, adding that 30 persons were involved in the auto crash.
He said the 28 people were burnt beyond recognition in the accident caused by a head-on collision of two vehicles.
He said the accident was due to excessive speeding and traffic violations.
Ibitoye also said the two other passengers of the vehicles were seriously injured.
The FRSC chief urged drivers to always exercise patience on the highway in order to reduce crashes.
The remains of the deceased were said to have been deposited in the mortuary at the General Hospital, Ore.
The two survivors who sustained a high degree of injuries are currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.
