3 suspected serial generator thieves nabbed in Benue
Benue State Community Volunteer Guard, (BSCVG), have arrested a suspected serial thief and his collaborators who specializes in stealing generators in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.
They were arrested while attempting to cart away a stolen generator.
The state commander, Captain Ayuma Ajovbi, (rtd), who disclosed this to newsmen in Makurdi, on Wednesday, said the suspects were arrested in Welfare Quarters area of the city at the early hours of Tuesday, March 19, 2024 after operatives swooped in on him.
Capt Ajovbi explained that one of the suspects, Aondugwa Zaki Nyamkyume, a 19 year old member of a four man gang, specializes in stealing generator sets and sells them to collaborators whom he refered to as “Iron condemned” at Yaman park.
According to the state commander, luck ran out on Nyamkyume when his colleagues ran away leaving him behind at the scene of crime.

He was however, rounded up by the operatives following a tip off by the security chairman of the Welfare community, Professor Chukudi.
Ajovbi said preliminary investigations led to the arrest of two other accomplices, Ghali Sumaila, 20 yrs old and Useni Hassan, a 23 yrs old, both who live at Rice Mill in Wurukum area and in the same business of “iron condemn.”
Capt Ajovbi state that the suspects have confessed to the crime and will be handed over to the relevant security agency for further investigation and prosecution as they do not have such mandates.
When interviewed, the lead suspect, Aondugwa Zaki Nyamkyume, confessed that him, his brother and three others had stolen four generator sets and sold one for N150,000.
He said he benefited the sum of N50,000 explaining that the two other suspects were collaborators who bought the generator.
Nyamkyume said he was misled by his elder brother into the crime after becoming an orphan when he lost both parents.
Meanwhile, the commander said the present administration led by Governor Hyacinth Alia has vowed to leave no stone unturned in the fight against crime and criminalities in the state.
