3,000 Nigerian products get UK tariff relief
The United Kingdom has announced that approximately 3,000 Nigerian products now qualify for zero or reduced tariffs under its Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), which came into effect in 2023.
Speaking during the DCTS Roadshow held in Kano, the UK Head of Trade Policy for Nigeria, Ms. Mujina Kaindama, said the initiative is designed to simplify rules of origin, making it easier for Nigerian exporters to access UK markets.
Kaindama noted that the roadshow was aimed at moving beyond policy discussions by providing exporters with practical guidance and support from trade specialists to help them leverage the scheme for business growth.

“The DCTS provides a practical pathway for Nigerian agribusinesses to expand exports and compete globally,” she said.
Also speaking, the Director of the Investment Promotion Department at the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment, Mrs. Orji Gertrude, said Nigeria and the UK have maintained close collaboration since the scheme’s launch to ensure entrepreneurs are well-informed and positioned to benefit from the opportunities it presents.
The DCTS is expected to boost Nigeria’s non-oil exports and strengthen trade relations between both countries.
