Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River, and his Ebonyi State counterpart, David Umahi, met with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers, on Wednesday evening.
Ayade and Umahi are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) while Wike belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The meeting, which was held in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, also had Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State in attendance.
Although the reasons for the meeting have not been made public, it was learnt that they were connected with the ongoing horsetrading ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Umahi and Ayade were elected in 2015 and re-elected in 2019 on the platform of the PDP. They both dumped the PDP in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
Ikpeazu, who is an ally of Wike, is among the PDP governors demanding the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as the national chairman of the party.
They gave that as the only condition for supporting the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar.
Other aggrieved governors in Wike camp are Samuel Ortom of Benue State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
