46 suspected bandits nabbed in Kwara

Security operatives in Kwara State have apprehended 46 suspected bandits said to be moving on motorcycles around the Babanla axis of Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The suspects were transported to the state police headquarters in Ilorin on Thursday in a white Coaster bus.

According to a report by TRIBUNE, the individuals are currently undergoing profiling as part of broader operations aimed at flushing out criminal groups from communities in the state.

Babanla has recently faced repeated attacks linked to banditry, with residents subjected to killings and abductions.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, has refuted viral social media reports alleging that a traditional ruler and his wives were detained over banditry-related activities.

The online claims suggested that law enforcement recovered N120 million connected to banditry, including N90 million allegedly found in the monarch’s palace and N30 million traced to an account belonging to one of his queens.

The post had sparked a wave of reactions online, with some commentators describing it as evidence that “no one is above the law.”

Responding, CP Ojo maintained that no monarch was in police custody and stressed that the alleged recovery of millions of naira was unfounded.

“You will discover that the story of the Oba of Babanla being in custody was already circulating before myself and other service chiefs visited Babanla community. We, together with the governor, met the traditional ruler in his palace then. So, presently, I don’t have any traditional ruler in my custody.

“And the millions of naira they are talking about — the way you are hearing it, that’s how I’m hearing it. That’s why I rely on you people. If I don’t see the story from national or mainstream media platforms, we should discard it,” the commissioner said.
