Buhari in Lagos, inaugurates Lekki Deep Sea Port

President Muhammadu Buhari arrived Lagos on Monday for a two-day working visit.

As the presidential aircraft touched ground at 3:33pm, Buhari was received by Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, and members of the State Executive Council.

Also present to welcome him are Ekiti Governor Biodun Oyebanji, and his Ogun counterpart, Dapo Abiodun; former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, and service chiefs, among others.

Buhari immediately headed for Lekki to open the Lekki Deep Seaport, where the first commercial vessel birthed on Sunday in expectation of the President’s visit.

After opening the seaport, Buhari will depart for Imota to open the rice mill.

He immediately headed for Lekki to inaugurate the deep sea port.

Other major projects of the Governor Sanwo-Olu he will be inaugurating are the 18.75-kilometre Eleko-Epe Rigid Pavement six Lane expressway; Blue Light Rail from Mile Two to Marina; John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History and MRS Lubricant plant in Apapa.

The Lekki deep-sea port is the first port in Nigeria with ship-to-shore cranes.

The seaport, spanning over 600 metres, is enough for a vessel of up to 16,000 standard containers (TEU). The approach channel is 11km long.

The deep seaport made history last year why it received the first ever vessel (Zhen Hua 28) to berth at the port.

The port has three terminals: the container terminal, the liquid terminal, and the dry bulk terminal.
