5 months after, bandits release female NYSC member, bus driver in Zamfara
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed that its efforts with the military have witnessed the further release of another female Prospective Corps Member, including the driver of the bus kidnapped in Zamfara State on their way to NYSC Orientation Camp in Sokoto State last year.
The NYSC in a release on Monday said this “brings the total number of Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) already released to five, while efforts are still ongoing to ensure that the remaining three (one female and two male) still in captivity regain their freedom soonest.”
“The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General YD Ahmed appreciates the security agents for their untiring efforts that resulted in the release of the PCMs, adding the Scheme will never shirk its responsibility of upholding the welfare of Corps Members at all times,” Eddy Megwa, the Director, Press and Public Relations, said.

Newstrends had reported how the NYSC members were kidnapped by suspected terrorists on their way to camp in Zamfara State in August 2023.
It was learnt that the corps members were travelling in an Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC) bus from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to Sokoto State, for the one-year national service, when their vehicle was intercepted by the hoodlums.
It was further gathered that there were 11 corps members and the driver, but three of the corps members escaped during the terrorists’ attack.
In October, NYSC also announced that they rescued one of the abducted female prospective corps members.
This means that there are still at least four of the kidnapped corps members with the terrorists.
