UPDATED: 6 Wedding Guests, 4 Reverend Sisters Kidnapped In Katsina, Imo

Bandits have abducted six wedding guests in Dutsinma town, headquarters of Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The victims are said to be relatives of a governorship aspirant, Umar Tata, who contested in the recent primaries of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“A woman, whose children were mostly kidnapped is the sister of the politician (Tata) and the way the attackers went straight to the house and kidnapped the women, was questionable,” a resident said.

The resident, who pleaded anonymity, said the terrorists initially kidnapped nine people at Unguwar Kudu Quarters but three were later released.

“First, they abandoned an elderly woman who could not trek and a kid who was continuously crying.

“There was a time the bandits came to Dutsinma for four consecutive days and kidnapped people. The situation has become worse and we are disturbed,” the resident lamented.

Police spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, could not confirm the incident at the time of filing this report.

In another attack, four Reverend Sisters of the Catholic Church were abducted along Okigwe-Enugu Road in Imo State, on Sunday.

The Sisters Of Jesus The Saviour (Generalate) identified the victims as Rev. sisters Johannes Nwodo, Christabel Echemazu, Liberata Mbamalu and Benita Agu.

In a statement, Zita Ihedoro, Secretary General of the religious body, said the sisters were kidnapped on their way to “morning mass”.

“The sad event of their abduction occurred around Okigwe-Umulolo area this morning shortly after the sisters were on their way to the thanksgiving mass of our sister.

“We implore for intense prayer for their quick and safe release. May Jesus the saviour listen to our prayers and may our mother Mary intercede for the unconditional release of our dear sisters,” the statement read.

Many people, including the Primate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Catholic priests, and travellers had been kidnapped along the Okigwe-Enugu Road recently.

A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Chinedu Nwadike, was last week kidnapped along the road.
