650 NNPP members defect to APC in Kano
No fewer than 650 members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on Thursday defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gobirawa Ward, Dala Local Government Area, as well as parts of Fagge and Ungoggo LGAs of Kano State.
The defectors, who arrived in clusters under various leadership groups, were formally received by the Managing Director of the Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, Rabiu Bichi.
Welcoming the new members, Bichi attributed their decision to the leadership style of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC’s commitment to fairness, inclusiveness, and delivery of democratic dividends.

He highlighted key achievements under the Renewed Hope Agenda, including the students’ loan scheme, agricultural initiatives, and youth and women empowerment programmes. Bichi also disclosed ongoing collaboration with the Bank of Agriculture to provide soft loans to farmers, aimed at enhancing food security.
“You are now part of the APC family and will enjoy the same rights and privileges as existing members,” Bichi assured the defectors.
Speaking on behalf of the new entrants, Alhaji Ahmad Gobirawa said their defection was motivated by the visible achievements recorded by President Tinubu in less than two years in office.
The defectors expressed optimism that their move would further strengthen the APC’s support base in Kano and beyond.
The event, which drew party stalwarts, community leaders, and youth groups, was described as a major political gain for the APC, especially in light of its renewed grassroots mobilization efforts across the state.
