7 die, 31 injured in Gombe road accident
Seven people have tragically died, and 31 others sustained injuries in a road accident involving a single vehicle on the Kaltungo-Cham Road in Gombe State.
Mr. Samson Kaura, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Gombe, confirmed the incident on Thursday. According to him, the crash, which involved a trailer carrying soft drinks and 38 passengers, occurred around 7:30 a.m.
Kaura attributed the accident to a suspected brake failure. He detailed that among the victims were 34 men, two women, and two children.
Of those who lost their lives, five were men, one was a woman, and one was a child. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the General Hospital Kaltungo, where the injured are also receiving treatment.

Addressing the tragedy, Kaura urged citizens to refrain from traveling in trailers to save on transportation costs. He explained, “Always consider the cost of road traffic crashes and loss of lives, and how much you will pay as the cost of transportation.
“Only a lone crash and we have many casualties, we spent a whole day attending to the situation.
“We advise against using trailers to travel because they (travelers) want to avoid paying the high cost of transportation. Please stop joining trailers or heavy-duty vehicles. They are not meant to convey humans, but goods.”
The sector commander also emphasized the importance of regular vehicle maintenance to prevent accidents.
