One Adedamola Idowu has been apprehended for allegedly defiling his seven-year-old daughter, Police in Ogun state have said

The 77-year-old Idowu was arrested alongside a 26-year-old neighbour, Oluwatobi Adebisi, for the same offence.

According to police, the septuagenarian and his accomplice were arrested on Friday in Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

The Commissioner of Police in the southwestern, Abiodun Alamutu, announced the development while parading the suspect before newsmen and members of the public on Tuesday.

He noted that the victim had been scheduled for counseling and therapy.

Parading the suspects at the police headquarters in Eleweran, Alamutu said: “This randy father and his neighbour have been having unlawful carnal knowledge of his seven-year-old girl. The victim has been referred for counselling and emotional therapy, and the case has been transferred to SCID for confidential investigation and prosecution.”

The proliferation of defilement of minors and teenagers has become a menace in the country in recent years. This heinous act is mostly perpetrated by individuals in whose care the hapless minors were entrusted to look after.

On Monday, the Abia State Vigilance Group arrested a man, Chidi Nkire, for allegedly defiling three of his underage children at their residence in the Obingwa Local Government Area of the state.

The disturbing incident reportedly began after Nkire ejected the victims’ mother from their marital home following a disagreement.

Last week, One Piler Erekwa, a pastor, allegedly defiled and impregnated a 15-year-old girl in the Ndele community, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers state.

The 45-year-old pastor has since been arrested by the police in the oil rich southern state.

Erekwa arrest followed a complaint made by one Amesi ThankGod, an in-law to the teenager.

The victim and her mother were members of the worship center, Gracious Covenant Church of Pastor Piler, mr ThankGod told journalist.

Bandits attack Zamfara communities, kill Islamic cleric, 29 others

Rampaging bandits have attacked two communities in Zamfara State where they killed at least 30 farmers, including a respected Islamic cleric.

Police Spokesman in Zamfara, ASP Yazid Abu Abubakar, confirmed the attacks on two local government areas of the state, but said details would be given later.

Sources said that the incidents in Zamfara State happened on Thursday.

An online platform, PR Nigeria, had reported that the attacks occurred in Maradun and Tsafe local government areas.

One of the sources said that Mallam Makwashi Maradun Mai Jan Baki, a renowned Islamic cleric and another person were killed in Maradun town.

Two of the cleric’s children are still missing after the attack.

It was learnt that three other persons were killed by the bandits in Gidangoga village, while residents of the village killed 24 bandits and recovered eight of their motorbikes.

A resident of Maradun said: “We engaged the bandits very well. Attacks are becoming consistent in Maradun area these days. They happen almost every day. Many communities in the local government have been vacated for fear of reprisal.”

PR Nigeria also reported that the bandits targeted Bilbis village in Tsafe LGA, leaving 20 civilians dead.

Local sources reported that the farmers were attacked while clearing their fields and the bandits showed no mercy.

It was also gathered that a district head, Alhaji Murtala Ruwan Bado, of Garbadu in Talata Mafara Emirate, also narrowly escaped a bandit attack in the evening of the same day along Mayananchi road.

Kogi varsity lecturer stripped near naked over sexual harassment 

A senior lecturer with the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Kogi State, was on Friday May 10 stripped near naked over allegations of sexual harassment of a female student.

The lecturer who was stripped to his boxers was however saved from further molestation by the combined efforts of the school security unit, at the Adankolo mini campus of the institution.

During interrogation, the lecturer implicated his colleagues, including the Head of the Department (HOD) of English, claiming that they usually provide him with names of female students to either “pass or fail” based on their level of intimacy or absence with them.

When contacted, the school’s spokesperson, Daniel Iyke, said that the management was aware of the development and had set up machinery to investigate the case.
