86 Nigerian Army’s captains to undergo promotion test

total of 86 captains in the Nigerian Army are set to commence their 2025 Written Promotion Examination at the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport (NASST) in Benin City.

The week-long assessment, which runs from May 12 to May 16, is a critical requirement in the promotion process to the rank of major.

At the formal opening of the exercise on Sunday, the Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) and President of the Examination Board, Maj. Gen. Kevin Aligbe, congratulated the officers for reaching this important stage in their military careers.

He emphasized the significance of the exam as a gateway to greater responsibilities, urging the candidates to uphold the highest standards of discipline and professionalism.

“The examination is part of the Nigerian Army’s structured promotion process aimed at building a professional, disciplined and merit-driven officer corps, in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s vision of a capable and responsive force.This is an opportunity to make a solid progression in your chosen career.Let me assure you that if you have prepared well, you will pass this exam without resorting to any form of malpractice. We expect nothing short of a 100 per cent success,” he said.

Maj. Gen. Aligbe reminded candidates that the promotion exam is a prerequisite for advancement to the next rank, particularly urging those retaking the exam to give it their all, noting that the Army allows only three attempts.

He cautioned that violations such as cheating or breaching security protocols would result in immediate disqualification and further sanctions.

“Our desire is to see all of you pass,” he added, assuring that the examination process would be conducted with transparency and fairness.He also announced that outstanding candidates would receive recognition in the form of awards, commendation letters, and cash prizes.

Welcoming participants to the training facility, NASST Commandant Maj. Gen. Adebayo Adegbite expressed the school’s pride in hosting the promotion exam, noting its importance in shaping the professional trajectory of officers.

“You have undergone a rigorous one-month preparatory cadder.The mock exam assessed your readiness. We expect good performance.Be reminded of the security situation in Benin. Avoid unnecessary movements. Move in pairs and be security conscious,” he said.
