945 Oyo Pilgrims Complete Umrah in Makkah as Final Batch Set to Depart Medina
No fewer than 945 pilgrims from Oyo State participating in the 2026 Hajj exercise have successfully completed their Umrah in Makkah, according to the Oyo State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board.
Chairman of the Board, Sheikh Wahab Atere Hashim Olamide, said the three batches of pilgrims already in Makkah were warmly received by Saudi Arabian authorities and had performed their Umrah with little or no difficulty under the guidance of Islamic scholars from Oyo State and other parts of Nigeria.
Addressing the third batch of pilgrims before their departure from Medina to Makkah, Sheikh Atere expressed concern over what he described as the attitudes and approach of some Nigerian pilgrims to Hajj activities.
He urged Nigerian pilgrims, particularly those from the South-West region, to avoid excessive social engagements during the pilgrimage and concentrate on acts of worship.

According to him, Hajj should be seen as an opportunity for spiritual growth and total devotion to Allah, stressing the need for pilgrims to dedicate more time to prayers, adequate rest and the proper observance of Hajj rites.
The chairman also cautioned pilgrims against unnecessary movement during the daytime because of the harsh weather conditions in the host country.
Sheikh Atere commended the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, for his support towards the success of the pilgrimage exercise. He also appreciated individuals and stakeholders whose contributions and advice had aided the smooth coordination of the Hajj operation.
He further disclosed that an additional 91 pilgrims, including himself, were expected to arrive in Makkah on Tuesday, bringing the total number of pilgrims from Oyo State participating in the 2026 Hajj to 1,036.
The figure, according to the Board, places Oyo among the leading states in the South-West in terms of participation in the 2026 Hajj exercise.
