Just in: MultiChoice increases DStv, GOtv subscription prices again

MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv and GOtv, has announced a new increase in subscription prices, marking the second price adjustment within a year.

The new rates will take effect from March 1, 2025, with prices set to rise by at least 20% across various packages.

This move comes as the company faces declining subscriptions and economic challenges across its major African markets.

According to documents obtained by TechCabal and an email sent to customers, the new subscription rates are:

DStv Premium: ₦45,000 (previously ₦37,000)

DStv Compact Plus: ₦35,000 (previously ₦30,000)

DStv Compact: ₦19,000 (previously ₦15,700)

MultiChoice has cited inflation and foreign exchange challenges as reasons for the price increase.

The company’s 2024 financial report revealed a 9% drop in active subscribers across Africa, with Nigeria, Angola, Kenya, and Zambia witnessing a 13% decline.

The sharp depreciation of the naira alone reportedly caused a 32% loss in MultiChoice’s revenue when converted to US dollars.

To mitigate these economic challenges, MultiChoice has adopted a cost-cutting plan aimed at saving $113 million while introducing “inflationary pricing” to maintain revenue. However, with consumer spending under pressure, the rising costs have sparked concerns among subscribers already battling economic hardship.

This development follows similar price adjustments by streaming services like Netflix, signaling a shift in Africa’s entertainment industry.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Consumer Protection Commission and other regulatory bodies are yet to react to the latest price increase. In the past, such hikes have attracted public outcry and even legislative scrutiny due to MultiChoice’s dominance in the pay-TV market.

“Sometimes, I Wonder Why I Married My Husband” — Omotola

Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has opened up about the realities of her 30-year marriage, admitting that there are moments when she wonders why she chose her husband, Captain Matthew Ekeinde.

The actress made the disclosure during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, where she discussed love, marriage, friendship and the challenges involved in sustaining a long-term relationship.

Omotola explained that marriage does not mean feeling romantic love for one’s partner every single day, adding that her husband understands the different emotions that can arise in a long-term relationship.

“My husband knows that I don’t love him all the time,” she said.

The actress also spoke candidly about moments when she notices other attractive men and jokingly questions her choice of husband.

“There are days that I’d see fantabulous guys, and I’d be like, I picked this one over you?” she said.

However, Omotola stressed that such moments do not mean that her marriage is troubled. Instead, she described her relationship with Matthew as a partnership built on commitment, understanding and the freedom for both individuals to remain themselves.

“Our marriage is not that serious. We’re partners,” she said.

The actress said she and her husband have also learned to acknowledge their imperfections instead of pretending that their relationship is always perfect.

According to her, open communication and honesty have helped them navigate disagreements and the changing emotions that come with a long-term marriage.

READ ALSO:

Omotola has previously maintained that divorce is not an option for her, while also acknowledging that every couple has to make decisions based on their individual circumstances.

She and Matthew married on March 23, 1996, and marked their 30th wedding anniversary in March 2026.

The couple have four children and have remained together through Omotola’s successful acting career and Matthew’s career as an airline pilot.

The actress has previously credited her husband’s selflessness, trust and willingness to support her career among the factors that have helped sustain their relationship.

Her latest comments have generated conversations about the realities of long-term relationships, particularly the distinction between romantic feelings and the commitment required to maintain a marriage over several decades.

Omotola’s remarks suggest that, for her, a lasting marriage is not necessarily about experiencing intense romantic feelings every day but about choosing partnership, communication and commitment even when emotions fluctuate.

Less Than Four Months After Wedding, Jarvis Threatens Peller With Lawsuit Over Second-Wife Plan

Nobody Should Invite My Husband Without Inviting Me — Jarvis Issues Stern Warning

Less Than Four Months After Wedding, Jarvis Threatens Peller With Lawsuit Over Second-Wife Plan

Popular Nigerian social media personality, Jarvis, has threatened to take legal action against her husband, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following an alleged disagreement over his reported intention to marry another woman.

The controversy reportedly erupted after Jarvis expressed anger over discussions about Peller taking a second wife barely four months after their marriage.

In a video shared on social media, Jarvis questioned why the issue of a second wife had surfaced so soon after their wedding, insisting that Peller had not presented such an arrangement to her before she agreed to marry him.

According to her, she entered the marriage based on an understanding she had with Peller before their wedding and was therefore unhappy that the possibility of another wife was now being discussed.

Jarvis reportedly reminded Peller that their marriage was still very young and warned that she would seek legal redress if the matter continued.

“Our marriage is not even up to four months,” she was quoted as saying while expressing her displeasure over the development.

She also reportedly threatened that Peller could end up in prison if she proceeded with legal action, adding to the intensity of the disagreement.

READ ALSO:

The social media personality further referred to discussions they allegedly had before their marriage, insisting that the present situation was different from what she understood when she agreed to become his wife.

The reported dispute has attracted considerable attention among their fans, particularly because of the short period since the couple formalised their relationship.

Peller and Jarvis’ relationship had generated significant public interest before their wedding, with the pair becoming popular through social media content, livestreams and appearances together.

Their wedding ceremonies were widely followed by fans and fellow entertainment personalities, making them one of the more closely watched young celebrity couples on social media.

However, the latest development has now shifted attention to the couple’s understanding of marriage, religion and the possibility of polygamy.

Jarvis reportedly maintained that she was not comfortable with the situation and challenged Peller over what she described as a departure from their earlier understanding.

She also threatened to take the matter beyond social media by seeking legal intervention.

There was, however, no indication from the reported exchange that Jarvis had already filed a court case against Peller.

Similarly, the reported controversy does not by itself establish that Peller has formally commenced plans to marry another woman.

Peller’s full response to the allegations was also not immediately clear from the circulating video.

The development has since triggered reactions among their followers, with many questioning what may have caused the disagreement only a few months into their marriage.

For now, the reported legal threat remains a warning made by Jarvis, while it remains unclear whether the dispute will result in an actual court case or be resolved privately by the couple.

The funeral followed a Night of Tributes and Service of Songs held on September 30 at Glover Memorial Hall on Lagos Island. The event attracted several generations of Nigerian actors and filmmakers who gathered to celebrate Jacobs’ contribution to the country’s entertainment industry.

Among those who attended the earlier tribute event were Richard Mofe-Damijo, Sola Sobowale, Funke Akindele, Jide Kosoko, Rita Dominic, Hilda Dokubo and Segun Arinze.

He subsequently became a prominent figure in Nollywood, appearing in numerous films and television productions and mentoring younger performers through his work in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Jacobs and Joke Silva also co-founded the Lufodo Group and the Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts, contributing to professional training and development in Nigeria’s performing arts sector.

His contributions earned him several honours, including the AFRIFF Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021, an Icon Award from the Actors and Voters Rights Society in 2022 and an Industry Merit Award at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

The funeral brought to a close a series of tributes celebrating the life and career of an actor whose work extended across theatre, television and film in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
