Beyonce and Jay Z Bought the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail, World’s Most Expensive Car

Published

on

Earlier this week, Rolls-Royce unveiled its first coachbuilding project in a long time and the first in a series of three nautically-based commissions. It’s called Boat Tail and it’s an outrageous, gorgeous and painfully expensive vehicle that’s already secured the title of the most expensive new car in the world.

Given its £20 million ($28.4 million) price tag, Boat Tail sure is expensive. It beats previous record holders, like the Bugatti Voiture Noire (€16.5 million / $20.2 million) and the Rolls-Royce 2017 coachbuilt Sweptail (£ 10million / $14.2 million) and, for the time being, is holding on to that number one spot.

Boat Tail is not just the priciest new car in the world and the next step in bespoke for Rolls-Royce, but also a true engineering wonder. It finds inspiration in nautical designs and is meant to be more than just a means to a destination, but the destination itself, through the inclusion of a stunning picnic set in the rear, which deploys at the touch of a button. This sounds gauche in writing, so think of it as a picnic set that took 4 years and $28 million to bring into reality, to be enjoyed on the Cote d’Azur.

So, this brings the question: who commissioned such a vehicle? Rolls-Royce, for one, would only say that the “patrons” are a power couple known worldwide both for their work and their art curation. “Their desire was to create a response to a life of hard work, success achieved, and celebration required,” the marque said earlier this week. “Their Rolls-Royce Boat Tail should be joyful, a celebratory car to enjoy with their family.”

The same release noted that blue was a favorite color for the two patrons, as was a shared love of fine champagne. They like their champagne to be cooled down exactly to 6 degrees Celsius, which led to the incorporation of a fridge in Boat Tail that did just that with extreme accuracy.

Industry reports are naming this power couple as Jay Z and Beyonce and, based on the tidbits offered by Rolls-Royce above, the description matches. They’re both passionate about boats, love champagne and have an outspoken adoration for everything blue ever since their daughter Blue Ivy was born. “It’s thought this fantastic car has been commissioned by Beyonce and Jay Z, with all its detailing matching their favorite things,” a spy tells The Telegraph. Rolls-Royce would not comment on the report.

Most importantly though, with a combined net worth of $1.9 billion, Jay and Bey are wealthy enough to afford to spend a fortune on a bespoke car they’ll probably take picnicking once.

I may not survive if I expose men who slept with my wife – Actor Ijoba Lande

Popular Nollywood comic actor, Ganiyu Kehinde Morufu, better known as Ijoba Lande, has revealed that his life could be in danger if he exposes the men who allegedly had affairs with his estranged wife, Muyibat.

In a recent video shared on his YouTube page, Lande recounted his marital struggles, claiming that his ex-wife was involved with multiple men in the entertainment industry.

He hinted that some of these individuals are highly influential, making it risky for him to reveal their identities.

He claimed that his ex-wife used to deny him sex but was having affairs with other men outside their marriage.

Lande expressed that his ex-wife caused him significant pain before leaving their marriage, emphasizing that besides her infidelity, she was also provocative.

He said, “Before my wife moved out of the house, she showed me hell. She would deliberately provoke me to beat her, but I never did. It is not easy for a man to beat a woman he loves. Despite everything she did to me, I didn’t want her to leave, so I endured.

“My wife, who used to tell me her hormones were not working whenever I asked for sex, was suddenly having high hormones for other men outside. I will always fear women.

“I have not had sex with my wife in eight months. At my child’s naming ceremony, my wife’s male friend came. They danced together to the extent that he tapped my wife on her butt.

“If I begin to list those who have slept with my wife in this industry, I might not make it home before they come after me, because some of them are well-connected.”

Just in: MultiChoice increases DStv, GOtv subscription prices again

MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv and GOtv, has announced a new increase in subscription prices, marking the second price adjustment within a year.

The new rates will take effect from March 1, 2025, with prices set to rise by at least 20% across various packages.

This move comes as the company faces declining subscriptions and economic challenges across its major African markets.

According to documents obtained by TechCabal and an email sent to customers, the new subscription rates are:

DStv Premium: ₦45,000 (previously ₦37,000)

DStv Compact Plus: ₦35,000 (previously ₦30,000)

DStv Compact: ₦19,000 (previously ₦15,700)

MultiChoice has cited inflation and foreign exchange challenges as reasons for the price increase.

The company’s 2024 financial report revealed a 9% drop in active subscribers across Africa, with Nigeria, Angola, Kenya, and Zambia witnessing a 13% decline.

The sharp depreciation of the naira alone reportedly caused a 32% loss in MultiChoice’s revenue when converted to US dollars.

To mitigate these economic challenges, MultiChoice has adopted a cost-cutting plan aimed at saving $113 million while introducing “inflationary pricing” to maintain revenue. However, with consumer spending under pressure, the rising costs have sparked concerns among subscribers already battling economic hardship.

This development follows similar price adjustments by streaming services like Netflix, signaling a shift in Africa’s entertainment industry.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Consumer Protection Commission and other regulatory bodies are yet to react to the latest price increase. In the past, such hikes have attracted public outcry and even legislative scrutiny due to MultiChoice’s dominance in the pay-TV market.

Mohbad’s widow Wunmi weeps, says father-in-law supports Naira Marley

Wunmi Aloba, the widow of the late musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, has claimed that her father-in-law, Joseph Aloba, has supported Naira Marley, one of her late husband’s friends suspected of bullying him previous to his death.

Wunmi made the remark when appearing as a guest on the With Chude show this week.

She said, “I knew he reacted to an injection, and the fact that at the end of the autopsy, it came out inconclusive just because of the one mistake my father-in-law made, which was burying him. This is one thing I don’t want to accept.

“Liam will grow up and see all of these things one day, and he will ask me questions, and the story will not be interesting if, at the end of the day, there was no justice for his father.

“The fact that he was bullied by his oppressors, and up till this moment, nothing has been done. Liam will see the bullying that happened to his father, which was what brought the world out for justice. Even though the police promised they would bring them to justice, nothing has been done up till this moment.

“You know you don’t have to kill somebody with a sword before you kill him. They cannot deny the fact that they made life unbearable for my husband. A lot of people everywhere might be supporting them in bashing me so that I wouldn’t talk about the bullying, but the few clips online cannot be erased, and Liam will grow up to see all of those things.”

“And his father, Joseph Aloba, has been on Naira Marley’s side. He has been speaking for them and trying to save them for reasons best known to him, so who am I? The ‘justice for Mohbad’ my father-in-law is asking for is not the same justice the public is asking for.

She also expressed worries that her son might be traumatized when he grows up and learns about all that happened to his father.

“I pray Liam doesn’t grow up traumatized from seeing what happened to his father. Imagining witnessing a group of people beating his father that way, it is traumatizing. Even I, whenever I think about those things, they break me, but at this point, I’m fighting for my life and that of my child.”

Speaking to the alleged bully, Wunmi said, “One thing I will tell him is that even if the whole world does not believe what I have been saying, you know deep down that you maltreated my husband. It has gotten to a point when I will speak up and not die in silence.”

Wunmi and her father-in-law have been at loggerheads over the properties of the deceased singer and the paternity of their son, Liam.

The deceased singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, filed a lawsuit seeking a DNA test for his child.

In the application filed by the legal team to Joseph, the family requested an order to serve Wunmi by posting all originating and other processes in the matter at the respondent’s last known address.

The family’s legal team, led by Emmanuel Oroko, maintained that attempts to serve Wunmi failed.

The Magistrates Court, sitting on July 9, 2024, in the Ikorodu region of Lagos State, authorized both parties to investigate alternate dispute resolution, which resulted in closed-door negotiations that also failed to produce an agreement.
