Plateau killings: Committee uncovers culprit bandits from four northern states

A  fact-finding committee set up by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has revealed that bandits behind recurring attacks in the state often cross in from neighboring states.band

Committee chairman, Major General Rogers Ibe Nicholas (rtd), said the team engaged with various ethnic groups and stakeholders and also visited violence-ravaged communities to gather first-hand accounts and chart pathways to peace.

According to him, the investigation showed that assailants frequently originate from Nasarawa, Kaduna, Bauchi, and Taraba states.

“The committee received a report of disturbances by bandits who are said to have established their cells in two villages of Nasarawa State bordering Quan’pan and forcing Plateau communities in Quan’pan to flee.

“In Wase and Kanam, the presence of bandits’ cells with suspected links to extremist organisations was reported.

“The motives driving these attacks are multiple, ranging from control of land and resources, to territorial expansion, ethno-religious dominance, political destabilisation, and outright criminal profiteering through kidnap-for-ransom and cattle rustling.

“These porous borders include entry ports from Nasarawa through Wamba, Lafia and Awe; from Kaduna through Lere, Kaura and Sanga; from Bauchi through Toro, Tafawa Balewa, Bagoro and Alkaleri; and from Taraba through Ibi and Karim Lamido. These routes are largely unmonitored and exploited by attackers for quick strikes and retreats,” he explained.

Nicholas stressed that with 420 communities attacked and close to 12,000 deaths recorded, the state cannot afford to view the violence as routine. He described the killings as coordinated, intentional, and devastating.

Receiving the committee’s report in Jos, Governor Mutfwang pledged to implement its recommendations to restore peace in the state.

He also said he plans to present the document to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security experts to give them a deeper understanding of the decades-long violence and to help craft lasting solutions.

Teen Murder Suspect Confesses, Reveals Chilling Details in Ikorodu Killing

A murder suspect, Anthony Oghenetega, has confessed to his involvement in the killing of a teenager in Ikorodu area of Lagos State, providing chilling details that suggest the crime was carefully planned.

Oghenetega made the confession during an interview on Sahara TV, where he narrated how the victim was allegedly lured and attacked shortly after returning from writing an examination.

According to his account, the teenager had travelled to Epe to sit for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination and was on his way back when he was deceived by an acquaintance. The suspect disclosed that the victim was persuaded to visit his apartment, where the attack was carried out.

He revealed that both he and an accomplice had prepared for the assault in advance, assembling weapons and materials before the victim’s arrival. Items allegedly used include chains, padlocks, a “Ghana-must-go” bag, a cutlass, and a stick embedded with nails.

The suspect’s statement indicates that the act was premeditated, raising further concerns about the nature and motive of the crime.

Police authorities in Lagos State have confirmed that Oghenetega is in custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects believed to have participated in the incident. The case is being treated as a homicide, with investigators working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage among residents of Ikorodu and beyond, with community leaders and civil society organisations calling for swift justice. Many have also urged security agencies to strengthen surveillance and preventive measures to curb rising violent crimes in the area.

Authorities have assured the public that all those found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

“No Calls, No Love”: Woman Shares Pain of Being Single at 50

A 49-year-old woman has stirred emotional reactions online after sharing her distress over remaining single and unmarried as she approaches her 50th birthday.

In a video posted on social media, the visibly emotional woman expressed deep frustration about her personal life, revealing that she has never experienced open romantic interest from a partner. According to her, no one has ever directly expressed love for her or indicated a desire to marry her.

She lamented what she described as a complete absence of communication typically associated with relationships, such as phone calls, text messages, or meaningful emotional connections. Comparing her situation with that of others, she questioned why her experience has been markedly different.

As her milestone birthday draws closer in June, the woman said the weight of her situation has become increasingly difficult to bear. She suggested that her prolonged singlehood might be linked to deeper underlying issues and indicated she may seek spiritual guidance in an attempt to understand her circumstances.

Her emotional outpouring has since sparked conversations on social media, with many users expressing sympathy, while others highlighted broader societal pressures surrounding marriage and age.

The husband of popular Nigerian social media personality Eniola Fagbemi, widely known as Sisi Alagbo, Akeem Adesola has publicly apologised following the circulation of a private video involving himself, his wife and another woman that triggered widespread reactions online.

The video surfaced earlier this week and quickly spread across WhatsApp groups, Telegram channels, gossip blogs and other social media platforms, generating intense public debate and criticism.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Thursday, Adesola Akeem accepted responsibility for the incident and expressed remorse over the embarrassment and disappointment caused by the controversy.

“I write with a deep sense of responsibility and sincere remorse to extend my heartfelt apologies to my family, friends, business associates, religious leaders, fans, loved ones, and the entire Nigerian public over the recent incident involving a leaked scandal,” he wrote.

“I acknowledge the disappointment, embarrassment, and concern this situation has caused, and I take full responsibility for my actions.”

Akeem said his behaviour fell below the standards expected by people who had supported and trusted him over the years. He also apologised specifically to his family members, supporters, business associates and religious community.

“To my fans and supporters, I deeply regret letting you down,” he added.

According to him, the incident has become a period of personal reflection, noting that he intends to rebuild trust and make better decisions moving forward.

“I am committed to making better decisions, rebuilding trust, and upholding integrity in both my private and public life going forward,” he stated.

Sisi Alagbo had earlier reacted to the controversy through a statement shared on her verified Facebook account on Wednesday. She apologised to followers and supporters, saying the situation had left her emotionally distressed.

“I own my mistakes, and I apologize with all sincerity for the video circulating online. I am deeply sorry to everyone who felt disappointed in me,” she wrote.

The incident has continued to dominate conversations on Nigerian social media, with reactions ranging from criticism to calls for privacy and restraint in sharing sensitive personal materials online.

Some social media users also raised concerns over the growing trend of leaked private content and cyberbullying, urging the public to avoid further circulation of the video.

Sisi Alagbo became widely known online through her promotion of herbal products and lifestyle content. She gained additional national attention during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after a viral moment involving Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen.

The couple has not disclosed whether legal action will be pursued regarding the source of the leaked material.
