For Raping 5-year-old girl, three suspects arrested in Kebbi

The Police have arrested three suspected rapists for defiling minors in Kebbi.

The Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Ahmed Magaji-Kontagora, told newsmen in Birnin Kebbi that the three were arrested in separate incidents.

He said that one of the suspects, Yunusa Adamu, 25, of Bumawa area of Koko, was arrested on Jan. 29, for allegedly giving N20 to N50 to sexually molest a 5-year-old girl in his mother’s room.

“The suspect threatened to deal with her if she revealed his secret. Investigations have been concluded and the suspect will be arraigned in court with immediate effect,” he said.

Magaji-Kontagora said another suspect was arrested for sexually molesting a 15-year-old girl in Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi.

He said that the suspect, Bello Shehu, 27, arrested on Feb. 4, at about 4:00 p.m., deceitfully lured the minor to his room and had sexual intercourse with her.

The commissioner said efforts were on to arrest Shehu’s accomplice, Yahaya Abdullahi, who has been on the run.

“On Feb. 10, at about 2:30 p.m., one Illo Mai’ole, aged ’25’ of Dalijan village in Gwandu LGA, criminally intimidated a 12-year-old girl of Gwanyal village, at Dagachari bush with a knife and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her three times.

“The suspect will be arraigned in court after investigation,” Magaji-Kontagora said.

The commissioner commended the officers and men of the command for their professionalism, and dedication to duty. Newsbreak

Lagos cleric, 45, docked for raping 22-year-old lady

A 45-year-old cleric, Mr Sunday Adewoye, was docked for allegedly raping a 22-year-old lady before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State on Tuesday.

Adewoye, whose address was not provided, is charged with unlawful sexual penetration and rape.

The prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that Adewoye committed the offenses on April 17 at 5.00 p.m. on Joseph Dosu Way, Badagry.

Adeosun said that Adewoye had sexual intercourse with the 22-year-old lady without her consent, in contravention of Sections 260 and 263 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, did not take the plea of Adewoye.

He said that he needed advice from the state director of public prosecutions.

The chief magistrate ordered that the defendant should be kept in a custodial facility pending the advice.

He adjourned the case until June 3 for mention.

Pregnant woman among nine people injured in Lagos gas explosion

A pregnant woman and eight other people sustained varying degrees of injuries after a gas explosion rocked the Alaba Lane area of Alayabiagba Community in Lagos, Nigeria.

New Telegraph reports that the incident occurred on Tuesday at around 12:39 pm.

According to Amodu Shakiru, the Head of Public Education at the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, preliminary investigations suggest that a leaking gas cylinder among several being traded in the neighborhood triggered the explosion.

The leak caused a high-tension cable to snap, starting a fire that destroyed four commercial tricycles, six lock-up shops, and a portion of a bungalow building.

“The Federal Fire Service, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and fire stations in Ajegunle and Sari-Iganmu quickly responded to the incident and were able to contain the fire.

“The Lagos State Ambulance Service also provided initial care to the injured, including the pregnant woman and children.”

“The pregnant woman and eight other victims, both male and female, are currently receiving treatment at the Gbagada Burn & Trauma Center and Ajeromi General Hospital for their burn injuries.”

In a separate incident, reports indicate that no fewer than 14 buildings were gutted by fire in Dosumu Market, located in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.

Labour Day: Nigerian workers are dedicated, resilient, says NURTW leader

As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day on May 1, acting president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Issa Ore, has praised the nation’s workers for their dedication to national development, commitment and resilience.

This is contained in his goodwill message to members of the union on the occasion of this year’s International Workers’ Day also known as Labour Day.

As part of activities to mark the event, the Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 1, as public holiday.

Ore commended members of the NURTW for their worthy contributions to the nation’s economy.

He said, “Your contribution is well noted. Your tireless contributions to keep our communities and people moving from one point to another are well appreciated.

“From drivers to conductors, your contribution is the engine that drives the Nigerian economy.”

Ore also said the national headquarters of the union was working tirelessly to address some the challenges facing members throughout the federation.

“We at the national headquarters of our great union are not unaware of the problems facing members and we are working towards improving the working conditions of our members and staff,” he stated.

On the leadership crisis rocking the union, Alhaji Ore stated that the national headquarters under his leadership had utmost fate in the judiciary to handle the matter, hence the appeal at the Court of Appeal.

He urged members of the union throughout the federation to be calm and law-abiding and not to be provoked by those trying to destabilise the organisation.
