Museveni wins 6th term as Uganda’s President, defeats Wine
Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni, has won a 6th term as president, defeating youthful Bobi Wine, his closest rival in the race.
Museveni won 58.6 per cent of the votes while Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, recorded 34.8 per cent, according to the election results announced Saturday by the Uganda Electoral Commission.
Wine, a former pop star, may be challenging the results as he has vowed to provide evidence of fraud once the Internet is restored.
He claimed some of his polling agents were arrested and detained on Thursday.
But the Electoral Commission has denied any vote-rigging in the Thursday’s poll.
BBC reported that poll monitors had criticised the government closure of internet access.
They said this undermined the confidence of the people in the presidential poll.
Museveni, 76, has been in power since 1986 and says he represents stability in the country.
“The electoral commission declares Yoweri Museveni… elected President of the Republic of Uganda,” the election commission Chairman, Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama, said on Saturday.
He said turnout for the election was 57 per cent of the almost 18 million registered voters.
He also said the vote had been peaceful, and called on Wine to accept the outcome of the election.

Atiku Condemns Attack on Edo Comedian Over Refusal to Support Tinubu
Former Vice-President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has condemned the alleged attack on Edo State-based comedian Osagie Daniel Idedia, popularly known as Porkupyne, reportedly over his political views and refusal to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Atiku called on security agencies to investigate the incident, identify those responsible and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
The comedian was reportedly attacked on Friday night, October 23, 2026, in Benin City, Edo State. He sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where he was reported to be receiving treatment.
The incident attracted public attention after a video showing the comedian lying on a hospital bed with visible injuries circulated on social media on Saturday.
In a statement shared on his X account on Saturday, Atiku described the assault as politically motivated, alleging that Porkupyne was targeted because of his support for the ADC presidential candidate and his criticism of the Edo State Government.
“I condemn in the strongest possible terms the brutal attack on comedian Osagie Daniel Idedia (aka Porkupyne), in Benin City, Edo State,” Atiku said.

He alleged that the comedian was attacked because he supported his political ambition and demanded good governance and accountability in Edo State.
Atiku also accused President Tinubu, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of creating an environment in which opposition supporters could be intimidated.
He challenged Okpebholo to explain the circumstances surrounding the incident and demonstrate that his administration would not protect anyone responsible for political violence.
The former vice-president urged the police to investigate possible political involvement in the assault and establish whether anyone sponsored or facilitated it.
He also called on Amnesty International and foreign diplomatic missions in Nigeria to monitor the treatment of opposition supporters, independently document alleged politically motivated attacks and demand accountability as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
Atiku maintained that Nigerians should be free to support any political party or candidate without fear of intimidation or physical assault.
He demanded justice for Porkupyne and called for measures to protect citizens exercising their right to political choice and peaceful dissent.
The attack also drew condemnation from comedian Gbadamosi Jonathan, popularly known as MC Edo Pikin, who expressed concern over Porkupyne’s condition in a video shared on social media.
Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command said it had begun investigating the incident.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said Commissioner of Police Patrick Daaor had ordered an immediate and thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the assault, identify those involved and ensure that anyone found responsible faced the law.
The police condemned violence and assured the public that the matter would be investigated.
However, the alleged political motive behind the attack has not been independently established, and the police have not publicly confirmed who carried out the assault or whether it was connected to the comedian’s political views.
The Edo State Government had not publicly responded to Atiku’s allegations at the time of the latest reports.
The incident has renewed concerns about political tolerance and the safety of citizens expressing dissent as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.

2027: APGA Chairman Says South-East Must Back Tinubu to Secure Igbo Presidency
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sly Ezeokenwa, has said the South-East must align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other regions to strengthen its political influence and improve its chances of producing Nigeria’s president in the future.
Ezeokenwa argued that supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 would serve the strategic interests of the South-East, insisting that the region could not secure the presidency without building alliances beyond its geographical boundaries.
The APGA chairman made the position known while defending the party’s decision to adopt Tinubu as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
According to him, the South-East must reconsider its political strategy and establish stronger relationships with the federal government and other geopolitical zones rather than remain isolated from national political calculations.
Ezeokenwa maintained that the region’s long-term ambition of producing a Nigerian president would require political negotiations, cooperation and strategic partnerships with other parts of the country.
He cited voter registration figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), arguing that the South-East’s share of the national electorate was insufficient to independently deliver a presidential victory for a candidate from the region.

“The South-East as a whole cannot, by its own, make someone the president without the broader coalition of other regions in the country,” he said.
The APGA chairman described his party’s position as an attempt to communicate what he considered the political realities facing the region, regardless of whether the argument was popular among its people.
He also maintained that the presidency should remain in the South for another four years through Tinubu, arguing that this would preserve the informal power-sharing arrangement between northern and southern Nigeria.
Ezeokenwa said the arrangement, which he traced to political understandings among the founders of the Peoples Democratic Party before the beginning of the Fourth Republic in 1999, had influenced presidential succession and power rotation in the country.
He argued that supporting Tinubu for another term would allow the South to complete its expected period in power before the presidency returns to the North.
The APGA chairman further claimed that the South-East had been marginalised in national political calculations since 2015, insisting that closer cooperation with the federal government could help the region regain political relevance.
He said the party believed that supporting Tinubu’s re-election would create an opportunity for the South-East to participate more effectively in national decision-making and negotiate for greater inclusion in the country’s political structure.
Ezeokenwa’s position is consistent with APGA’s earlier declaration that it would support Tinubu in 2027 rather than field its own presidential candidate.
The party has maintained that its decision is based on strategic political interests and ideological alignment, while insisting that its support for Tinubu does not mean it has merged with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, who belongs to APGA, has also defended the strategy, arguing that supporting a southern president in 2027 could help build trust among political groups and strengthen the prospects of an eventual Igbo presidency.
Soludo’s inclusion in the APC presidential campaign council as the coordinator for Anambra State has further highlighted the growing political cooperation between APGA and the federal government ahead of the 2027 election.
The debate over the South-East’s political direction is expected to remain a significant issue as parties and political leaders begin positioning themselves for the next presidential contest.

Adeleke, Oyetola in Focus as Report Reveals Osun APC Power-Sharing Plan
Adeleke, Oyetola in Focus as Report Reveals Osun APC Power-Sharing Plan
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reported decision to place Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke at the centre of his 2027 re-election campaign in the state has triggered a fresh power struggle within the All Progressives Congress (APC), amid reports of a proposed political arrangement that could reshape the party’s leadership and distribution of appointments.
According to a report by Leadership, negotiations allegedly brokered by Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, have produced a proposed power-sharing arrangement involving Adeleke, former Osun governor Gboyega Oyetola, APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru and former party national secretary Iyiola Omisore.
Under the reported arrangement, Adeleke would coordinate Tinubu’s re-election campaign in Osun and secure greater influence over political appointments and party affairs, despite remaining a member of the Accord Party, which he joined after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The report also suggested that Adeleke could defect to the APC in 2027 after the elections, potentially bringing his political loyalists with him. However, no formal defection announcement has been established, and the alleged agreement should not be treated as a concluded deal.
The reported negotiations represent a potential shift in the balance of power within Osun APC, where Oyetola has exercised considerable influence over party leadership and candidate selection.
Oyetola, who currently serves as Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, was a central figure in the party’s political structure before the latest developments. His influence extended to the selection of the APC’s candidates for the August 15, 2026, Osun governorship election and other elective positions.
The APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, lost the election to Adeleke, who contested on the Accord Party platform. The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner with 511,067 votes against Oyebamiji’s 444,815, a margin of 66,252 votes.

The result strengthened arguments among some APC stakeholders that the governor’s electoral standing and grassroots support could be important to Tinubu’s efforts to improve the party’s performance in Osun in 2027.
Under the reported power-sharing proposal, Adeleke would nominate chairpersons in 20 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyetola, Omisore and Basiru would share influence over the remaining 10. The proposed arrangement would also cover the nomination of councillors in the affected local government areas.
The report said the proposed distribution would reduce Oyetola’s previous influence while giving Basiru and Omisore a larger role in the party’s political arrangements.
Another sensitive issue reportedly addressed during the negotiations is the prolonged dispute over control of Osun’s local governments. The proposed understanding would see the parties explore an out-of-court settlement, subject to the appropriate court process and approval of any terms reached.
The reported negotiations have not, however, established that the parties have concluded a binding agreement on the local government dispute or that any proposed settlement has received judicial approval.
Basiru has reportedly urged members of his Alubarika political group to cooperate with Adeleke in coordinating Tinubu’s re-election campaign. At a meeting in Osogbo, he was quoted as saying that the President had chosen the governor for the assignment and that party members should put aside personal ambitions in support of Tinubu’s second-term bid.
Basiru’s reported position has added weight to the emerging arrangement, although the extent to which all APC factions will accept the proposed distribution of influence remains uncertain.
The governor’s inauguration of a 344-member campaign council for Tinubu’s re-election bid has also exposed disagreements among party stakeholders. Oyetola and Oyebamiji were among prominent figures reported absent from the event, alongside APC State Chairman Tajudeen Lawal and other party leaders.
The Osun APC had complained that it was not adequately consulted before the inauguration, raising concerns about the process through which the campaign structure was established.
Nevertheless, several prominent political figures attended the event, including former governor Adebisi Akande, Basiru and Omisore. Akande reportedly said the party had lacked direction until Adeleke stepped in to coordinate the presidential campaign.
Basiru also defended the arrangement, urging party members to respect Tinubu’s choice of campaign coordinator and work together towards the 2027 election.

The development has generated mixed reactions among political stakeholders. Some have welcomed Adeleke’s appointment as an opportunity to unite rival political camps behind Tinubu, while others have called for wider consultation to prevent the new structure from deepening existing divisions.
Adeleke’s position is particularly notable because he remains an Accord Party governor while coordinating the re-election campaign of the APC’s presidential candidate. His support for Tinubu predates the latest reported negotiations.
After his August 2026 governorship victory, Adeleke publicly expressed support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition, citing the President’s regional background and the need to complete major federal infrastructure projects in the South-West.
The governor has previously denied that his support resulted from a political agreement with Tinubu. He said his position was motivated by his desire to see federal projects in the region completed.
His campaign team has also rejected claims of a secret political pact with the Presidency, maintaining that the governor’s support was based on his assessment of Tinubu’s performance and policies.
The distinction is important as the reported negotiations involve claims about political appointments, local government influence and the future leadership of the Osun APC that have not all been independently confirmed.
Other political stakeholders have urged the emerging coalition to avoid sidelining existing party leaders. Some have argued that the campaign council should provide space for rival factions to participate without allowing disagreements over appointments or political ambitions to undermine the shared objective of supporting Tinubu.
The coalition’s effectiveness will depend on how the participating groups manage their differences and whether the proposed arrangements translate into practical cooperation beyond the campaign.
For now, Adeleke’s appointment as Tinubu’s Osun campaign coordinator is a reported political development, while the broader claims of a secret power-sharing deal and a future defection to the APC remain subject to confirmation.
The unfolding negotiations could significantly alter Osun’s political alignments ahead of the 2027 general election, but the final terms, the position of Oyetola’s camp and Adeleke’s long-term party affiliation remain unresolved.
