Abducted OOU students released

Two female students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Precious Adeyemo and Abiola Oyefule kidnapped by unknown gunmen from the Ayetoro campus in Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, have been released.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, announced the release of the students on Tuesday night.

“This is to announce that we have secured the release of Precious Adeyemo and Abiola Oyefule – both OOU students recently kidnapped in Ayetoro,” the governor wrote on his official Twitter handle.

“I appreciate the efforts of the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police and other security agencies involved in the exercise that will now see the ladies reunited with their respective families.”

The students were kidnapped on Sunday night when gunmen stormed Igbole Aibo quarters in Ayetoro.

The two students were reportedly returning from an outing when they ran into the attackers.

The gunmen were said to have been on the trail of a call card dealer in the area, but were unable to break into her house, after which the students were taken away instead.

In a 10-second video shared on Tuesday night by Emmanuel Ojo, media aide to the Ogun governor, one of the girls was heard weeping, while some persons who appeared to be family members surrounded her.
