Abductors of the six persons kidnapped from the University of Abuja staff quarters are demanding N300m ransom from their families for their release.
A professor of Economics, Obansa Joseph, his two children and three other persons were abducted on Tuesday when gunmen attacked the staff quarters of the university.
The gunmen were said to have demanded N50 million for each person abducted.
Habib Yakoob, UNIABUJA spokesman, who confirmed the development, said, “They are asking for N300 million collectively. I’m not aware if they were given a deadline to pay or not.”
Mustapha Sambo, son of one of the abducted persons, had told TheCable, “They took our phones and his wallet. Then they said they need money. When we said there was no money at home, they took him and said we must bring N100 million before they release him.”
The gunmen numbering about 30 reportedly shot intermittently in the air to scare away people while they carried out the attack that lasted for over two hours.
