A former Head of State, Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar, and President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday met in Abuja.
Although the reason for their meeting was not disclosed, it was however learnt that this might not be unconnected with the security situation in the country.
Personal Assistant to the President on New Media Bashir Ahmad disclosed this on his twitter handle.
He stated, “President Muhammadu Buhari receives in audience former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.) at the State House, Abuja.”
Nigeria has in the past few months experienced an increase in kidnapping and attacks by bandits especially in the North.
On December 11, 2020, over 300 pupils were kidnapped from a boys’ secondary boarding school, Kankara of Katsina State.
Again, on February 26, 2021, about 300 female students of GSS Jangebe in Zamfara State were abducted by gunmen.
On March 12, 2021, gunmen invaded the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation in Mando, Kaduna State, and abducted 39 students.
The 39 students are still in their captive camp. Parents of the 39 abducted students of the college on Thursday protested and appealed to the state governor, Nasir el-Rufai, to negotiate with the bandits and secure the release of their wards.
The governor has insisted that his government will not negotiate with bandits.
