Abia church reportedly cancels wedding after pregnancy test

Abia church reportedly cancels wedding after pregnancy test

A popular Pentecostal church in Aba, Abia State’s commercial nerve center, has reportedly canceled a religious wedding of one of their members due to a negative pregnancy test.

According to sources, the wedding was due to take place on Sunday, November 25, between one Mr. Isreal and Miss Rose at one of the church’s branches located at No. 138 Ehere, off Ikot Ekpene Expressway.

The Church’s Board was claimed to have cancelled the wedding after learning that the bride-to-be was already pregnant, which is against the church’s laws and regulations guiding intended couples who have notified the church of their intentions to be lawfully married by the church.

Our correspondent gathers that it is the standard procedure of the church that the bride-to-be would not be pregnant until they were wedded by the church, even after the man had met all the traditional marriage requirements from the bride’s family.

A source around the area who confirmed the development said after conducting a pregnancy test on the bride-to-be, the church “found out that she was pregnant and announced that the wedding is hereby cancelled”

It was further gathered that both the bride-to-be and the groom-to-be were subsequently suspended in accordance with the Constitution and Byelaws of the Church.

The church and the couple have remained mum over the matter.

Our correspondent who visited the church on Monday was told that the resident pastor and the church’s Board were sitting and were unavailable for comments.
