There are reports that #EndSARS protesters that blocked the two entrances to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) head office in Abuja Sunday night were attacked in the wee hours of Monday.
Some of the youths were reportedly wounded and parked cars vandalised by their attackers who chased them out of the area and took charge of the CBN office.
News Trends had last night reported that the protesters, chanting anti-government songs and carrying different placards, had vowed to prevent activities at the nation’s apex bank on Monday.
They also packed vehicles in front of the main gate of the CBN office, blocking movement in and out of the premises and from connecting roads.
Some of them were also stationed on the road by the rear exit of the building. And as of 9:30pm, music was blaring from loudspeakers on the premises.
Nairaland captures some of the experiences of those who reportedly witnessed the early morning attack.
For instance, one Emmanuel Omadhebo tweeted, “Abuja protesters screaming and begging for their lives as hoodlums attacked, vandalised and burnt their cars at the #Abuja protest.”
Another Twitter user, Barrybrizzy, states, “Those thugs pursued us. I’ve not seen my brother yet.”
Meanwhile, security agents including soldiers have taken over the CBN premises and some major roads in Abuja hitherto blocked by the protesters, according an early morning report by Channels TV.
The security personnel were said to have freed some of the roads for traffic to flow.
