Abuja-Kaduna train: NRC manager in DSS trouble over leaked memo
The alleged plan by terrorists to attack Abuja-Kaduna train again has landed the railway manager in charge of the line, Pascal Nnorli, in trouble.
A memo issued by the Department of State Services alerting the Nigerian Railway Corporation to the planned terror attack was said to have leaked, The Punch reports quoting a source.
The railway manager was reportedly arrested along with the Operations Manager, Victor Adamu, and other staff members by operatives of the DSS.
Their arrest was said to have been based on the premise that the secret police had earlier warned against leaking the memo dropped in the manager’s Abuja office.
It was widely reported that the DSS last Wednesday issued a security alert to the NRC on a plot by terrorists to attack the Abuja-Kaduna train link at any time.
The memo signed by the Director of the DSS, FCT Command, R.N. Adepemu, was addressed to the NRC Managing Director, Engr. Fidet Okheria, for train passengers to be security conscious.
The warning came about 18 months after terrorists attacked the Abuja-Kaduna train in March 2022. On the night of the attack, terrorists emerged from the Kateri-Rijana forest of Kaduna State, letting off explosives to derail the passengers train carrying 362 passengers.
Punch quoted an NRC source as saying, “Do you know that they have arrested our manager since last Thursday – the two of them, the operation manager and Pascal? But they have released one of them.
“Victor is a victim of circumstances because they met him in Pascal’s office, so they arrested him together with all Pascal’s staff and took them to the DSS office. Pascal is still there now.”
“I couldn’t tell why they arrested them but what I am hearing is they said one letter concerning this Abuja-Kaduna attack, they wrote one letter to our managing director and it states clearly that if the letter leaks, it can lead to arrest and according to DSS it was Pascal’s office they dropped the letter and the letter leaked and went viral.”
