Abuja–Kaduna train resumes October 1, with enhanced safety, Wednesday for weekly maintenance

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the resumption of passenger train operations on the Abuja–Kaduna corridor, starting Wednesday, October 1, 2025, with enhanced safety,  passengers support

This follows weeks of suspension due to the August 26 incident that affected service along the busy route.

According to the NRC, full safety, technical, and operational checks have been successfully completed ahead of the relaunch.

“This step underscores the corporation’s commitment to ensuring smooth, reliable, and secure train services for the traveling public,” said Callistus Unyimadu, Chief Public Relations Officer of the NRC, in a press statement issued on Sunday.

Support for Affected Passengers

In a show of accountability and commitment to passenger welfare, the NRC provided updates on efforts to support those affected by the August 26 incident.

Out of the 583 passengers on board during the incident, the NRC stated that 530 have been contacted, and 512 have received refunds. All 22 injured passengers have also been reached, with many receiving visits from NRC’s medical team. As part of the support measures, injured passengers will be entitled to one free ride per week until December 31, 2025.

Furthermore, all 618 individuals on board the affected train—whether injured or not—will receive one free ride before the end of the year.

Updated Train Schedule

The Abuja–Kaduna train service will resume on the following schedule:

Abuja to Kaduna:

Departs IDU at 8:45 a.m.

Stops at Kubwa at 9:05 a.m.

Arrives Rigasa at 12:42 p.m.

Kaduna to Abuja:

Departs Rigasa at 2:30 p.m.

Stops at Kubwa at 6:02 p.m.

Arrives IDU at 6:23 p.m.

The NRC also announced that Wednesdays will now be reserved for maintenance, and no train services will operate on that day for the Abuja–Kaduna corridor.

NRC Reaffirms Commitment

Unyimadu expressed appreciation to passengers and the Nigerian public for their patience and understanding during the service disruption.

“We remain steadfast in our mission to deliver safe, affordable, and efficient rail transportation that supports national connectivity and economic growth,” he added.

The NRC emphasized its ongoing commitment to improving passenger experience and safety across all routes nationwide.
