Adamawa gov poll: INEC to conclude result collation in Abuja, announce winner in Yola
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmoud Yakubu, along with national commissioners, will today (Monday) in Abuja meet with all officials of the commission from Adamawa summoned over the result collation and controversial announcement of the state governorship election winner.
They are expected to resolve all issues arising from the collation of the election results and conclude the process.
It was however learnt that the winner of the poll would be announced in Yola, Adamawa State capital.
INEC on Sunday suspended the collation of the election results following outrage over the declaration of a winner by Prof. Yunusa Hudu Ari, the Resident Electoral Commission (REC) for Adamawa.
The REC had declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani, as winner of the election while results from about 10 local governments were still being expected.
An INEC commissioner was thereafter said to have been assaulted by some enraged party thugs who stripped him naked.
The National Commissioner, Information and Voter Education Committee of INEC, Festus Okoye, announced the suspension of the collation in a statement, adding that the commission had summoned the REC and all those involved to its headquarters in Abuja.
They were asked to come to Abuja with the original result sheets and other relevant documents.
