ADC accuses APC of burning party secretariat in Ekiti

Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the burning of its state office in Ado-Ekiti, describing the incident as a politically motivated act of intimidation allegedly carried out by suspected hoodlums linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the attack occurred just hours before its scheduled “Reconfiguration and Affirmation Ceremony,” a key event in its political calendar.

Abdullahi described the arson as “criminal and undemocratic,” accusing the perpetrators of attempting to terrorize the opposition ahead of the state’s governorship election. “It is a disgrace to anyone who claims to uphold democracy and political freedom,” he said.

The party alleged that the attack was part of a broader pattern of aggression targeting ADC offices and members across the country. It cited similar incidents in Kaduna, Lagos, Kebbi, Kogi, and Edo States since the Opposition Coalition endorsed ADC as its preferred platform in July.

“This is a dangerous pattern that should concern all Nigerians,” Abdullahi warned, criticizing the silence of authorities. “Any government that ignores attacks on opposition parties is effectively inviting chaos.”

The ADC further accused the APC of orchestrating the attacks out of fear of the party’s growing popularity among Nigerians dissatisfied with the current administration. “The fire in Ekiti is further confirmation that the APC is afraid of the rising wave of the ADC,” Abdullahi stated.

The party called on security agencies to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. It also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), civil society organizations, and international observers to monitor the situation closely.

Despite the setback, Abdullahi confirmed that the party’s planned event in Ekiti would proceed as scheduled. “Even if it has to be held outdoors, the ceremony will go ahead. Violence will not stop the ADC from moving forward,” he declared.
