ADC fingers presidency in plot to destabilise party

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged that elements within President Bola Tinubu’s administration are orchestrating a covert plot aimed at destabilising the party and weakening its rising influence.

The allegations were made public in a statement by the party’s interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.

The ADC claimed that certain federal officials held a secret meeting with former state chairmen and selected executive members of the party in the North-East and North-West zones. The meeting, according to the party, was not connected to issues of national importance, but instead designed to intimidate and coerce party leaders.

Describing the development as an act of political sabotage, Abdullahi said the intention behind the meeting was to create internal confusion, delegitimise the party’s newly unveiled leadership structure, and curtail its momentum as a viable opposition force.

He warned that such actions, if unchecked, pose a serious threat to the country’s multiparty democracy.

“The July 1st Coalition Declaration and the July 2nd unveiling of the ADC have clearly unsettled the ruling party,” the statement reads.

“The Tinubu administration, having lost public trust, is resorting to old tactics to destabilise the opposition rather than addressing national challenges.”

Abdullahi further called on President Tinubu to demonstrate statesmanship by curbing what he described as undemocratic conduct by some of his appointees.

“The Tinubu administration must restrain those within its ranks who are working to undermine democratic values,” the party noted.

He added that the ADC will explore all legal and constitutional means to resist what it sees as an assault on political pluralism in the country.

“The party would use all lawful means to resist any attempt to undermine Nigeria’s democracy,” Abdullahi affirmed.
