Adeleke dissolves UNIOSUN governing council, justifies staff audit

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dissolved the Governing Council of the Osun State University, Osogbo.

The Yusuf Alli-led council of the university was appointed by former governor Rauf Aregbesola in 2016 and was reappointed by the immediate past governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, after it completed its first five-year tenure.

A statement on Friday by the state Head of Service, partly read, “The Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, has approved the dissolution of the Governing Council of Osun State University with immediate effect.

“While thanking the council members for their selfless service and commitment to the university, the governor equally appreciates them immensely for their contributions to the development of the university in particular and the state at large and wishes them the best in their future endeavours.”

Meanwhile, the state government on Friday explained that its proposed staff audit is not a witch-hunt or an agenda to sack civil servants.

The labour leaders in the state had rejected the staff audit, saying such exercise conducted in the past subjected workers and pensioners to untold hardship.

A statement by the spokesperson for the governor, Olawale Rasheed, said, “The administration wishes to put it on record that there is no hidden agenda to sack workers through the ongoing staff audit. The deep relationship between Governor Ademola Adeleke and the labour movement is unprecedented in the history of labour and the government in Osun state.

“As a government with labour welfare as the first item on its governance agenda, the unions are reassured that their interest and that of their members are well protected. The request of the labour leadership to be part of the audit process is being looked into by the state government.”
