Adeleke names Makinde new Igbajo monarch, Famodun vows not to vacate seat
Trouble may be brewing in Osun community, Igbajo, over who occupies the seat of paramount ruler, Owa of Igbajo.
The tussle became imminent as Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke on Monday named Dr Ademola Makinde as a new Owa of Igbajo.
But Oba Famodun appointed by the previous administration has insisted he remains the paramount ruler of town.
Famodun was earlier recognised as the monarch after he was nominated by kingmakers of the town.
But Adeleke faulted his selection and used warrant chiefs to select the new king on Friday.
Adeleke, on Monday morning in a statement through his Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, said the appointment of the new Owa was reached at the executive meeting at the Exco Chambers in line with due process, chieftaincy law and tradition.
“Governor Ademola Adeleke at the Executive Meeting congratulated the new Owa of Igbajo and tasked him to heal the wounds of the selection process by ensuring inclusive traditional governance.
“I urge him to embark on reconciliation and restore the dignity and integrity of the traditional institution,” he said.
