Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has officially defected to the Accord Party
Adeleke officially Joins Accord Party Ahead of 2026 Governorship Election
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has officially defected to the Accord Party, positioning the platform as his vehicle for the 2026 governorship election. The announcement was made on Tuesday evening at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Osogbo, in the presence of national and state leaders of the Accord Party.
The governor’s defection follows the resurfacing of a resignation letter, dated November 4, which emerged online on December 1—shortly after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) conducted its primary that produced Adebayo Adedamola as its candidate. Adeleke confirmed that he had formally joined the Accord Party on November 6 after extensive consultations with stakeholders.

In his address, Adeleke said the Accord Party’s mission of welfarism aligns with his administration’s focus on improving the lives of citizens and workers. He emphasized the importance of unity within the party and inclusive governance, stating:
“Our task is to sustain a united front as we prepare for the elections. We have a duty to ensure inclusive leadership where the interests of all groups are protected. Our party is here to take over governance in Osun and sustain the delivery of good governance.”
Adeleke highlighted his administration’s achievements in infrastructure, social services, and citizen welfare, noting that the Accord Party offers a platform to continue these efforts. He expressed confidence that Osun voters, who supported good governance in 2022, would back continuity under his leadership in 2026.
The governor officially declared:
“In line with the will of our stakeholders and in respect of the wishes of the people of Osun State, I hereby declare for the Accord Party.”
Adeleke’s move marks a significant shift in Osun State politics and sets the stage for a competitive race in the 2026 governorship election.
