Adeleke raises alarm over plot to destabilise Osun

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has raised concerns over an alleged scheme to attack local government secretariats and target political leaders in the state.

In a statement released in Osogbo by his spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed, the governor claimed to have received credible intelligence about the alleged plan, which he said was aimed at creating unrest ahead of the forthcoming local government elections. According to Adeleke, the objective was to sow chaos and push for the imposition of a state of emergency.

Vowing to take decisive action, Adeleke warned that anyone caught participating in such activities would face the full force of the law.

“I have issued stern directives to the security agencies to secure the state and apprehend any troublemaker,” the governor stated.

He also criticized what he described as the desperate tactics of certain opposition politicians, emphasizing that Osun remains one of the most peaceful states in the country.

“There is no legal basis for any plot to take over the local government system in Osun state. Elections to fill the offices of chairmen and councilors are scheduled for Feb. 22. Anybody who tests our resolve to sustain law and order in Osun state will have himself to blame,” he added.

Reassuring residents of their safety, Adeleke urged them to go about their daily activities without fear, asserting that the government was in full control of the situation.

Addressing legal concerns surrounding the elections, the governor dismissed claims of any court ruling preventing the polls from taking place. He accused the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) of spreading misinformation, clarifying that a recent Court of Appeal decision in Akure was related to procedural matters involving the PDP and had no bearing on the existing judgment that removed the previously elected APC local government officials.
