Adeleke to Join New Party Before December 13 — Osun Govt

Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, has confirmed that Governor Ademola Adeleke will officially join a new political party before December 13, following his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This comes after earlier reports that the governor tendered a resignation letter to PDP executives in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North, dated November 4, 2025. The resignation marks a major turning point in Osun politics ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

Speaking on Rave FM in Osogbo on Tuesday, Alimi said Adeleke’s decision stemmed from “prolonged internal crises” within the PDP national leadership.

“The governor of Osun State and the Asiwaju of Ede has formally resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party. The governor has written his resignation letter for quite a long time,” he disclosed.

Alimi appealed for calm, urging residents to continue supporting Adeleke despite the political shift. Using a Yoruba proverb, he emphasized that “the people are the governor’s protectors.”

He explained that the escalating crisis within the PDP—particularly at the national level—made Adeleke’s position untenable with the INEC nomination deadline drawing close.

“Had it not been for the crisis at the national level, which will play a crucial role in the nomination of the governor, he wouldn’t have defected. With the INEC window for nomination closing by December 15, the governor had to resign,” he said.

Responding to speculations that the All Progressives Congress (APC) welcomed Adeleke’s departure from the PDP, Alimi dismissed the claims as false.

“They’re pretending. They know what has hit them. Those causing problems for us in the PDP are apologists for other political parties. The APC thought Adeleke would contest under the PDP so they could use the national crisis to file cases against him. But Adeleke is always ahead of them,” he asserted.

With Adeleke set to declare for a new party within days, Osun’s political landscape is poised for a dramatic realignment as the countdown to the 2026 Osun governorship election intensifies.
