Algeria head coach Vladimir Petković
Algeria head coach Vladimir Petković has admitted that Nigeria’s Super Eagles were the better side after securing a convincing 2-0 victory in their AFCON quarter-final clash.
Speaking after the match, Petković acknowledged that Algeria struggled from the early stages, conceding that his team was unable to impose itself against a dominant Nigerian side.
“Nigeria was better than us and prevented us from playing the way we wanted,” the Algerian coach said.
He noted that the Super Eagles controlled key phases of the encounter, using their physicality and technical quality to dictate the tempo of the game.

“They showed superior individual quality and physical strength,” Petković added, explaining that these factors made it difficult for Algeria to compete at the required level.
Despite attempts to recover after the interval, the Algerian side failed to create clear-cut chances in attack.
“We tried to improve, but we couldn’t reach the level we wanted going forward,” he said.
Petković described Algeria’s elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as a painful moment for his players, stressing that the defeat was particularly disappointing given their performances earlier in the tournament.
“The players are devastated, but they performed well throughout the tournament,” he said.
The coach, however, urged his squad to remain positive and focused on the future.
“This competition is over and we must now look ahead with our heads held high,” Petković concluded.
