Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has won the Bauchi State governorship ticket of the People’s Democratic Party.
This is coming barely a week after the governor failed to get the party’s presidential ticket, which was won by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar at the PDP special convention in Abuja last weekend.
Mohammed, who was the sole aspirant at the Bauchi PDP governorship primary, polled a total of 646 votes out of 650 votes cast on Saturday.
Returning Officer of the election thus declared Mohammed winner.
“By the powers conferred on me by the constitution of the PDP, I hereby declare Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir as the winner of the PDP gubernatorial ticket for the 2023 General elections,” the presiding officer said.
Secretary to the State Government, Ibrahim Kashim, initially emerged winner of the PDP ticket in the Bauchi governorship primary. But he later announced his withdrawal from the race apparently to pave the way for his boss, Bala Mohammed.
In his victory speech, Mohammed thanked the SSG Ibrahim Kashim for his loyalty to him, and for deeming it fit that the governor deserves a second term.
He said he was aware that other political parties had elected their flagbearers, and promised to play the politics with fairness and carry everyone along.
