After winning Australian trophy, Sinner withdraws from Rotterdam Open

Jannik Sinner, the world number one tennis player, has withdrawn from the 2025 Rotterdam Open (ABN AMRO Open).

The event will take place at the Rotterdam Ahoy in the Dutch city of Rotterdam, between February 3 and 9, 2025. It will be the 52nd edition of the Rotterdam Open.

The Italian, who lifted the trophy in Rotterdam last year, has cited the need to rest after clinching his third major title on Sunday at the Australian Open.

Sinner defeated Alexander Zverev to win second consecutive Australian Open title and third Grand Slam.

“After consulting with my team we had to take the difficult decision to withdraw from the ABN AMRO Open,” said Sinner.

“My body needs time to rest after the long run in Australia.

“I have great memories from winning the title in front of amazing crowds at Rotterdam Ahoy last year and hope to be back there soon.

“I wish [tournament director] Richard [Krajicek] and the whole team a great event.”

World No. 11 Grigor Dimitrov, who was forced to retire due to injury from matches at both the Brisbane International presented by Evie and the Australian Open earlier this month, has also withdrawn from Rotterdam.

The field at the indoor hard-court ATP 500 will be led by Top 10 stars Carlos Alcaraz, who will now compete as the top seed on his tournament debut, Daniil Medvedev, Alex de Minaur and Andrey Rublev.

Holger Rune, Jack Draper, Hubert Hurkacz, Arthur Fils, former champions Felix Auger-Aliassime and Stan Wawrinka, as well as home favourite Tallon Griekspoor, also feature in a stacked field at the Rotterdam Ahoy.

Following the withdrawals of Sinner and Dimitrov, Jakub Mensik and Roberto Bautista Agut move into the main draw.

The fast-rising tennis star Mensik is currently at a career-high No. 48 in the PIF ATP Rankings as he prepares for his Rotterdam debut.
